The lifecycle of psychological development

It is all about perception — how we see the world shapes the model we build, and the model shapes how we act. Set an age, bend the factors, and read the loop.

Disclaimer. This is an educational and illustrative tool, not a diagnostic, clinical, medical, or psychological instrument. It summarises population-level tendencies from developmental and cognitive research; the 0–100 scores are heuristic and directional, not calibrated measurements or predictions about any individual. Some frameworks it draws on (Piaget's and Erikson's stages, Maslow's hierarchy, the predictive-processing reading) are partly theoretical or contested. Nothing here is advice — for decisions about health, mental health, or a specific person, consult a qualified professional.

From perception to action

the science behind every card above

Every input on the left feeds this same pipeline. Perception is built from two streams, and it shapes behaviour on two channels at once: directly, and through psychology — since beliefs and emotional style are themselves largely built from perception. Behaviour, biology and environment then combine so that a specific action fires only when three things line up at once.

Perception
Bottom-up (Gibson)Raw signals — light, sound, pressure — sent up from the senses.
Top-down (Gregory; Neisser)Expectations, memory and culture projected down onto that raw data.
shapes directly
Behaviour
Biology (Engel)
Psychology (Lazarus)
Environment (Asch; Cialdini)
Action (Fogg, B=MAP)
Motivation — the "why"
Ability — the "how"Capacity to act, from the efficacy trait.
Trigger — the "when"External (an alarm, a deadline) or internal (a spike in anxiety). This model can't simulate a specific moment — only the readiness to respond to one.
The ultimate driver — closing the gap. Underneath all of this, action exists to resolve tension: the mismatch between the current state and the desired one (homeostasis — Cannon) or between a belief and reality (cognitive dissonance — Festinger). The current tension level, read from cortisol above, is .
And it loops. The action taken changes what gets sampled next — Neisser's perceptual cycle — so Action feeds back into Perception at the top, exactly as the "action changes what is seen" arrow shows in the loop diagram above.

Marketing & branding read

consumer-behaviour heuristic · not a targeting tool

Turns the profile into a strategist's brief: how this audience notices, believes, and converts, and what a message needs to do to work.

Friction / ability
Conversion readiness
Responsible use: never target children, people in acute distress, or someone in a deprived physiological/safety state with manufactured urgency or fear. This reads readiness to remove friction and communicate real value — not to manufacture pressure on someone least able to resist it.

Saved profiles

Saves the current age + factor selection to your Neon database via /api/profiles. Click a saved profile to load it. (Works once DATABASE_URL is set on Vercel.)

Privacy (POPIA): saved profiles are private to this device and are never shown to other users. Please use non-identifying labels — avoid entering another person's name or personal details. Information is handled in line with AUK's POPIA compliance standards (data minimisation, purpose limitation, and access control).

Selling efforts

sales-approach heuristic · not a script

Once someone's paying attention, this reads how the actual sales interaction should be run — approach, pacing, objections, and what will realistically move it to a close.

Responsible use: honest selling informs a real decision; it doesn't manufacture false urgency, exploit an attachment style, or push past a stated "no." Use pacing and lever guidance to communicate value clearly — not to overpower resistance.

Neurochemical tone

heuristic · not a measurement

A cartoon-level read of the felt chemistry behind this profile — the "good and bad feelings" driving it. Real neurotransmitter systems are far more complex, interacting, and context-dependent than the labels below; treat this as illustration, not brain chemistry.

Synthesized narrative

The Claude narrative is temporarily disabled. It can be switched back on any time.
